180 Degree Rule When Filming

The 180 Degree Rule is important rule you must follow to keep continuity when film making. This video below can help demonstrate this rule.

Basically when filming with two cameras you must film from the same side of the subject as if you film on the other side then you will break the 180 degree rule which means that the film will not look continuity correct . Example if a person was walking left to right and you filmed from the other side (against the 180 rule) then they would be right to left which would show the person walk opposite way due to were the camera is. The video below show the 180 rule broken which I made with people who are on my course.

Ed is Left to right

Ester is Right to left

OH MY GOD! from James Harris on Vimeo.

When we edited both our Versions together I came to understand the 180 rule better as you can see why its an important skill to remember when filming. When filming we had not many problems, we filmed most of the shot on a tripod with made the shot look steady but the shot with out tripos you can see that it got little camera shake.
